Companions in Christ
St. John’s began participating in this ministry through The Upper Room Ministries (www.upperroom.org) a couple of years ago. We have had participants in the Introductory 28 week program of spiritual formation and discipleship. This program has helped our members to go deeper in Biblical Study and in their relationships with God and each other. We have also participated in “The Way of Forgiveness” program that is only eight weeks in length but assists participants in focusing on improving one aspect of Christian life and practice. Though we are not currently offering programs, we hope to have another offering within the next year.

Lectureships
Each year in April, St. John’s sponsors a lectureship, or, in alternating years, partners with the Ecumenical Institute to offer a lectureship. The following are descriptions of each:

  • Broach Lectures—This year’s lecture will be held on April 21, 2008. The speaker will be Dr. James Howell, author and Senior Minister of Myers Park United Methodist Church, Charlotte.
  • Koinonia Lectures—Plans are underway for our 2009 lectureship

Women’s Bible Study
Our Women’s Bible Study is offered for women of all ages who are available during the 11 a.m. hour on Thursdays. We meet generally every Thursday to discuss one or two chapters of the Bible. We began this effort in the summer of 2002 with the intention of journeying through the Bible. Any woman is welcome to join us at anytime and we hope that you will.

We are currently studying the book of 1st Samuel. We welcome any new participants at any time. To discern what chapter we are studying simply email blythe@stjohnsbaptistchurch.org for an update.
