Adult Initiatives

Our Adult Initiatives offer ways of connecting with Christ and others outside of the Sunday morning time frame.

Lectureships
Every other year in April, St. John’s sponsors a lectureship, or, in alternating years, partners with the Ecumenical Institute to offer a lectureship. The following are descriptions of each:

  • Broach Lectures—Last year’s lecture was held on April 21, 2008. The speaker was Dr. James Howell, author and Senior Minister of Myers Park United Methodist Church, Charlotte.  We now look forward to April of 2010!

Women’s Bible Study
Our Women’s Bible Study is offered for women of all ages who are available during the 11 a.m. hour on Wednesdays. We meet generally every Wednesday to discuss one or two chapters of the Bible. We began this effort in the summer of 2002 with the intention of journeying through the Bible. Any woman is welcome to join us at anytime and we hope that you will.

Devotional Group

Our weekly devotional group began in the summer of 2002. We now have around 130 email addresses in our group that represent far more than 130 readers. We currently have a wonderful line-up of writers for our weekly devotional. We hope you’ll join us.

Book Club
Leslie Bragg, one of our young mothers, leads the Book Club that meets every second Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the church library. If you have questions about the SJBC Book Club, call Leslie Bragg at 704-896-8941. We would love to have you join us! Childcare arrangements can also be made. Click here for a list of our past books.
