Hunger
Committee
.
. . for I was hungry and you gave me food . . .
Matthew 25:35
Welcome!
The Hunger Committee hopes you will visit often and learn
about the activities to help the hungry in our community and
world.
For thirty-one
years, the Hunger Committee has supported programs to fight
hunger. Donations from the congregation are distributed quarterly
among agencies and organizations concerned with hunger relief.
Our
Purpose
To create
in the St. John’s family an awareness of hunger and
its causes throughout the world and to encourage a response
based upon the demands of the Gospel and one’s ability
to lessen the problem.
Our
Plan
The emphasis
will be upon possible changes in lifestyles, which will generate
funds to be used to lessen the problem. We hope that, as knowledge
and commitment grow, each person will find increasing ways
to change to a less expensive and wasteful way of living and
that the funds thus saved will be given to lessen world hunger.
We will
also seek to encourage participants to use the discipline
of the hunger program to promote personal growth in commitment
to the Gospel and in concern for all people.
We will
encourage the participants to use their influence with decision
makers in the church, the denomination and the nation to the
end that all decisions are made in an awareness of world hunger.
