Membership at St. John's

St. John's Baptist Church is a people and a place where you can put your Christian faith into practice. St. John's is committed to the concept of the "servant church." The congregation makes its facilities available for community ministry and provides ministry to the hungry, the sick, the homeless, and those in need of various types of support in the greater community.

Within the church there are unlimited opportunities for service to each other. The Sunday School classes, the choirs, the committees, all form churches within the church for support and nurture of the members.

In addition to inspired, well-educated and dedicated ministers, the church maintains a tradition of strong lay leadership. At St. John's there is a place of service for you.

Becoming a Member

Church membership is taken seriously at St. John's. St. John's is open to all who accept Jesus Christ as savior and choose this congregation in which to continue their journey of faith and service. A long established procedure helps prospective members understand the church and its ministries.

Individuals are welcome to present themselves as candidates for membership during worship services, either before or after completing an orientation program, which gives prospective members an understanding of the particular ways in which St. John's practices the Christian faith.

The ordinance of Baptism is administered to candidates upon profession of faith. However, in keeping with our ecumenical appreciation of other faith perspectives, we do not rebaptize those who transfer into our church after having been baptized or confirmed in other denominations, unless the candidate so requests.Upon completion of the three orientation sessions, candidates are welcomed as members. They are presented to the congregation at the next Communion Service, where the Church Covenant is read in unison, symbolic of a commitment by the new members and a recommitment by current members to Christian service through St. John's.
